A different survival strategy
Hibernation involves regulated changes in metabolism and physiology. It is not equivalent to freezing a mammal solid and reviving it. The biology varies across hibernating species.
Translate a mechanism, not a headline
A candidate protective mechanism must first be identified and tested. Whether it would help an isolated human cell, tissue, or organ is a separate experimental question. Human applications remain an area for investigation.
Read with these questions in mind
- What biological material was studied?
- What comparison group and recovery measurements were used?
- What would need to be tested before applying this elsewhere?
