Why warming matters

A vitrified sample can crystallize during warming. Temperature differences also create mechanical stress. Simply heating the outside faster can leave the interior behind.

The research approach

Nanowarming uses magnetic nanoparticles and an alternating magnetic field to generate heat throughout a prepared sample. Distribution, heating control, and particle removal are among the practical questions. Performance must be validated for the actual sample.
