The milestone
Han and colleagues reported kidney transplantation in rats after vitrification, cryogenic storage, and nanowarming. The recovered kidneys supported life in the experimental model.
What remains to be solved
Human-sized organs add transport and heating challenges. Clinical translation also requires evidence of safety, reproducibility, and durable function. This result is a step toward organ banking, not proof that human organ banking is available.

- What biological material was studied?
- What comparison group and recovery measurements were used?
- What would need to be tested before applying this elsewhere?
